Schülke & Mayr

SCHÜLKE&MAYR, a chemical-pharmaceutical company with the headquarters in Norderstedt near Hamburg (Germany), is a leading European manufacturer of disinfectants, hygiene products and preservatives for the use in human and veterinary medicine as well as food and cosmetics industry.

Within its parent company (owner), French company Air Liquide Groupe, Schülke & Mayr acts today as a legal entity in the area of healthcare. Today the company, including its European subsidiaries, has more than 500 employees.

The company was founded in 1889 by Hamburg entrepreneurs Rudolf Schülke and Julius Mayr. Their first disinfectant, under the protected name of LYSOL, was successfully launched in the 1893 cholera epidemics in Hamburg. In 1913, a new product, Sargotan, was introduced in medical practice. It has remained the best known Schülke & Mayr disinfectant.

The business activities gradually expanded to the field of hygiene, body care, and preservatives, where the company has a prominent and in some sectors even the leading position in the market. During its 1963 expansion, the company moved from Hamburg to the small town of Glashütte, today a part of Norderstedt.

Its rigorous business standards are attested by ISO 9001 and DIN EN 46001 certificates.

Schülke & Mayr applies the European ECO AUDIT regulations for environmental protection. In March 1996, its efforts were rewarded by excellent reviews for a successful and environmentally conscious business (so-called Environmental Management System).
